Dear Parents,
This memorandum is to inform you that NC End of Grade Tests (6-8 Reading, 6-8 Math, 8th Science) and other State mandated exams such as NC Final Exams (6-7 Science, 6-8 Social Studies) and Career and Technical Exams (CTEs) , will comprise 20% of your middle school student’s final grade. State Board policy GCS-C-003© requires public schools to use results from all operational End of Course (EOC) assessments, which includes Final Exam (FE) tests and CTE post-tests, as at least 20% of the student’s final grade for each respective course.
GSC-003 also mandates that public schools adopt policies regarding the use of EOC assessment results in assigning final grades. This applies to our current 8th grade students enrolled in Math I, Math II, or English I classes who may potentially earn a high school credit for these classes. These test results will comprise 25% of the student’s final grade.
Additionally, for the 2016-17 school year, the state mandates that all testing take place during the last 15 instructional days of the school year for year-long classes. It is imperative that students be in attendance for these last 15 days of the school year. Knowing this information, please do not schedule any activities or events during this time. With possible inclement weather on the way, it is impossible to know when the last 15 days of school might be. So, please be cautious when scheduling events in June.
Thank you very much for all that you do for your child, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at school (646-3442).
Sincerely,
Emily Fama
