Bethel Middle School will be participating in a community service project to help local nursing home residents who suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia. Bill’s Buddies was created to honor the memory of Bill Knapik, father of BMS teacher Michelle Knapik, who passed away last September after battling Lewy Body Dementia. Recent studies have shown people with Alzheimer’s or dementia receive calming benefits from cuddling and interacting with realistic stuffed animals and baby dolls. To offer our support, we will begin collecting new and gently used stuffed animals and baby dolls to share with patients in Haywood County. The more realistic the stuffed animal or doll is, the more therapeutic it is for these patients.
Collections will begin on Wednesday, May 1st and end on Friday, May 10th. All donations need to be put in collection boxes placed in the BMS main building or the Outback.
