Home / BMS Slideshow / Wonder: Life in the OR

On Friday, the media center was transformed into an operating suite as sixth grade students performed exploratory surgery on characters from their class novel, Wonder. Students scrubbed in, assessed their patient, and used text evidence to discover symptoms and knowledge of characterization to determine a diagnosis. A special focus was placed on examining the character’s heart, brain, eyes, hands, and feet. Occasionally a character would “flatline” and emergency lifesaving maneuvers (in the form of literary element analysis) were required to save the patient.
